This database provides information on 22 million immigrants and ship's crews who arrived at Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1898 and 1924. Searchable by name, including alternate spelling, results provide date of arrival, age, marital status, ethnicity, residence, gender, ship, and port of departure. Information on each ship and ship manifests are also available. Immigrant Experience includes The Peopling of America, which covers pre-1790 to 2000 with a "timeline showing forces behind immigration and their impact on the immigrant experience." Each part is further broken down by county and by town. The database is available at the six locations (including the Warwick Public Library) listed on the Cemeteries Homepage.
Rhode Island Historical Society Library CatalogThe Rhode Island Historical Society online catalog contains records for all genres of the Society's collections. This includes, but is not limited to: books, objects, maps, manuscripts, newspapers, paintings, film, textiles, pamphlets, and broadsides. This initial version contains only a portion of the full collection. The library is currently working to electronically catalog all collection items. The most complete access is still available at the RIHS Library.
RootswebBilling itself as "The Oldest & Largest FREE Genealogy Site," RootsWeb includes search engines and databases, family trees (over 70 million names), surname and geographical mailing lists, and message boards. Although it remains free to users, RootsWeb is now sponsored by Ancestry.com, whose databases (both free and pay) can also be searched from this site.
Social Security Death IndexThe Social Security Death Index (SSDI) is a searchable database of the Death Master File (DMF) from the U.S. Social Security Administration. DMF contains over 60 million records created from SSA payment records (mostly from the mid-1960s to date) and is updated monthly. The database can contain name, social security number, date of birth, date of death, and last residence/lump sum payment information when available, and can be searched on those criteria.
